The woman who attempted self-immolation in Gaddhoo island of Gaafu Dhaal atoll has been brought to capital city Malé for further treatment.

The woman had set herself ablaze at a time on Friday evening, narrowly surviving with over 70 percent of her body having been burned.

Council member Amir Abdulla stated that she had been receiving treatment from the Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Thinadhoo island before she was brought to the capital at around 8pm on Friday.

Citing the family, Amir stated that she is being treated at the ICU of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, and her condition is still serious.

The council member told RaajjeMV that the woman had never attempted suicide before and that she had been living a normal life with her two children, aged three and six.

The single mother has a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.
