The Counter Terrorism Emergency Preparedness Workshop 2019 has been held at Kurumba Maldives resort on Wednesday.
The workshop is held under the UK's International Protect and Prepare project and was conducted with the Maldives police service and Jakarta's Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation.
The purpose of the workshop is to prepare those working in the tourism industry and the government institutions.
This year's workshop was inaugurated by tourism minister Ali Waheed. Speaking at the event, he highlighted the importance of guaranteeing the safety of Maldivian citizens and tourists.
Acting Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed said that the relevant authorities need to work as a team to have the upper hand on terrorism and that those working in couter-terrorism need to trust each other and share information.
57 people from various sectors participated in the workshop. They include officials from the President's Office, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Health, Maldives National Defence Force, National Center for Counter Terrorism, National Disaster Management Authority, Maldives Red Crescent, resort security and workers.
