Results of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s primary election held last Friday remain unchanged afterthe ballots were recounted on Monday.
MDP recounted the ballots Holhudhoo and south-Thinadhoo following complaints regarding the results.
However, upon the conclusion of the recount, the results had been unaltered, assuring the party ticket to south-Thinadhoo constituency to Abdulla Saneef. He had beaten Zifleen Hassan, member of MDP’s National Congress, with a difference of two votes.
On Monday evening, committee members recounted the ballots at the MDP campaign site in Thinadhoo in front of observers.
Saneef won with 389 votes and Zifleen received 387 with the number of invalid votes being nine.
MDP held their primaries for 86 constituencies, for the Parliamentary Election scheduled for 6th April.
48,777 out of the 78,638 eligible voters had cast their votes in Friday’s primary election.
