The Elections Commission has said that it will announce the interim results of Saturday’s local council vote on Tuesday.
The commission said on Monday that officials will commence announcing results at 11:00 am on Tuesday at the commission’s election center in Malé city.
The results were to initially be announced on Monday, however this was delayed by the commission citing technical problems.
The voting process had also been extended on Saturday after some ballot boxes opened late due to logistical difficulties. This had caused concern among some voters and opposition parties, who claimed that this disrupted the transparency of the vote.
International observers that had overseen the voting process during the elections had reported that the elections were free and fair.
