Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Shahid Ali has revealed that they are working to reduce the practice of corruption within the company.
At a press conference held on Tuesday, CEO Shahid revealed that they have decided to get involved with the massive case of graft involving the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the largest case of embezzlement in recent history.
Shahid said that MMPRC had spent over MVR 160 million for dollar purchase and that they are yet to compensate MVR 80 million.
Stressing that they will take all legal measures to get the money back, Shahid expressed hope that they will be compensated.
Highlighting that MPL works tirelessly to ensure no such acts of corruption are practiced within the company, Shahid said they are working at the manegerial level to reduce corruption and that their employees are also working tirelessly to abolish corrupt practices.
Shahid also said they will be strengthening their management and governance as well as the company’s audits. In addition, the internal department of the company will be made to report back to the company’s board.
Shahid assured that the company has no employees with a record of corruption and said that ff any of their employees face allegations of corruption, it will take measures against the employee as mandated under company regulations.
