Shazail Shiyam has been appointed Managing Director of Maldive Gas, on Sunday.

He was the chairman of Kooddoo Fisheries in 2013 and was a deputy fisheries minister.

He was dismissed as the deputy tourism minister on 12 April 2017 after he stopped supporting then President Abdulla Yameen and joined opposition leader and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM).

It is noteworthy that this is the first appointment made by the new government to fill in slots reserved for coalition partner MRM.

Shazail is also the younger brother-in-law of Villingilli MP Saud Hussain.
