Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s spouse Mariyam Nashwa will be allowed to stay by him at the hospital, reveals Maldives Correctional Service (MCS).

Adeeb was rushed to Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for treatment, on Saturday evening. This comes at a time the former VP was transferred back to prison while he was under house arrest under doctor’s recommendation.

While Adeeb was treated at the Intensive Care Unit, reports surfaced on social media that his family members were barred from staying by him during the treatment. MCS has since refuted these claims.

It revealed via twitter that as per regulations, wife Nashwa will be allowed to stay with him round the clock for the duration he is admitted at the hospital. They have also allowed family members to visit him at hospital.

Adeeb, who was serving a 33-year-long prison sentence was transferred to house arrest following a surgery after which the doctor recommended, he be kept in a “homely environment” until conclusion of his treatment. He was treated at IGM Hospital in November due to a health deterioration following which he underwent a surgery to dissolve stones in his ureter.

He was taken back to prison on 2nd January, after 36 days under house arrest.

Adeeb’s transfer comes after he had been elected as leader of new political party Maldives Third Way Democrats (MTD) and following his transfer, supporters and members of the party had expressed concern.
