Rescue officers of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) have on Friday refloated a vessel after a reef stranding near the Bolifushi Island Resort in Kaafu atoll.

The 50-foot ‘Azum 2’ ran aground a surface reef to the east of the island, with six people onboard at about 9:40pm on Thursday.

Individuals aboard the vessel were employees of the Bolifushi resort, who went on a fishing trip to neighbouring Maniyafushi island.

The MNDF’s maritime rescue coordination center had managed to refloat the vessel at about 1:40am. No one was injured.
