The Maldives National Defence Force's rescue unit has quelled a fire at the Maldives Ports Limited's (MPL) complex in Ameenee Magu of capital city Malé. 

The fire, which originated from wooden scraps kept at the MPL's labour quarters was quelled shortly. However, the fire had damaged the exterior of a storage site next to the quarters.

A witness to the incident said that a police officer stationed at the scene had been taken to the hospital after he sustained wounds to his arm. 

The Maldives Police Services had confirmed that officers were at the scene.
