Jumhooree Party council members Waleeda Waleed and Nishama Mohamed have been appointed deputy ministers.
Waleeda is now the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage and Nishama is the Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Health.
They were given the letters of appointment on Sunday by Minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Shifaz. However, the President’s Office has not confirmed their appointment.
Waleeda, who is famous for her work in the film industry, is currently the head of JP’s women’s wing. Nishama is the chair of the party’s committee of gender.
Many senior JP members have been given top government positions after their coalition won the election. JP has been facing public criticism for giving some of those positions to members who lack the qualification, this includes making Waleeda a deputy minister.
