A minor has died by drowning in sea near an uninhabited island in Haa Alif atoll.

RaajjeMV understands that five-year-old Shifan Mohamed native to Nolhivaranfaru island had drowned during a family trip near Dhidhdhoo island in Haa Alif, which was joined by about 60 individuals.

Council Deputy at Nolhivaranfaru of Haa Dhaalu atoll, Ahmed Waheed reported to RaajjeMV that doctors had declared the little boy dead within 45 minutes after having been taken to the hospital in Dhidhdhoo island.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, Dhidhdhoo Hospital Manager Mohamed Hashim stated that the child was brought it at around 11:50 on Thursday morning and he was lifeless upon arrival.

Maldives Police Service had also reported that they had received information of such an accident having occurred, however, they had not shared further details regarding the death of the child.
