The President’s Office appointed member to the Judicial Service Commission, the statutory judicial watchdog, has been elected vice president.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih appointed Masthoor Husni as vice president, having dismissed Ahmed Saleem, who was appointed by former president Abdulla Yameen.
Masthoor was made vice president on Monday by unanimous votes from all members present.
The Judicial Service Commission is charged with appointing judges to local courts, hearing disciplinary cases against them, and dismissing them.
The commission now consists of parliament-appointed member MP Faris Maumoon, People’s Majlis speaker Qasim Ibrahim, Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Areef, High Court Judge Abdul Gafoor Ibrahim, and lower court-appointed Judge Mohamed Eesa.
