A rescued newborn found abandoned in GDh. Vaadhoo on November 26 has been placed under state care.

The gender ministry’s assistant director Ibrahim Mohamed said that the infant was placed in the care of the Fiyavathi center on Saturday.

Before that, the gender ministry had taken care of the infant’s medical care while in hospital, Mohamed said, adding that the baby is in good health.

Mohamed said that they are currently looking for any family member looking to take custody of the baby and that, if not, he will be given to foster parents.

A 26-year-old woman in Vaadhoo abandoned the infant after giving birth and he was later found by a local.

While photos of the infant had circulated online, the gender ministry has urged the public to refrain from doing so.
