The environment ministry is to launch a ‘National Cleanup Programme’ on Saturday.

The programme is to be launched at 7:30am on Saturday, at the Maafannu Stadium in capital Malé.

Speaking to the media, Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said that its main objective is to instill good cleaning habits in the public, as well as to find the best waste management solution.

He noted there are issues with the system currently, including a range of environment issues.

Dr. Hassan added that the ministry intends to conduct a series of cleanup programmes across the country.

Furthermore, the minister noted that the government requires the support of the people and council to make the programme a success.

Malé City Council, Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) will be joining Saturday’s progamme.

While President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had released his agenda for the first 100 days of his administration, launching a national cleanup programmes is included for the first 30 days.
