SC rules to reinstate former head of police intelligence
Hameed was dismissed following allegations of disclosing classified information, following the unexpected resignation of former President Nasheed

Supreme Court orders Maldives Police Service (MPS) to reinstate the former head of police intelligence Mohamed “MC” Hameed.

Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi and Justices Adam Mohamed Abdulla and Abdulla Areef ruled to reinstate Hameed on Sunday.

While RaajjeTV is still banned from covering court hearings, media reports state that the Supreme Court had in its ruling noted that prosecutors had admitted to Hameed being dismissed against procedures.

Hameed was dismissed following allegations of disclosing classified information, regarding the events surrounding the unexpected resignation of former president Mohamed Nasheed in February 2012.

While he was dismissed from the post, charges were not raised against him.

Civil Court had, back in 2013, ruled to reinstate Hameed, further ordering the police to pay Hameed's salary and allowances from this dismissal date of 7th August 2012, to restore the gap of his absence from service.

However, police refused to reinstate him and had instead filed an appeal case at the High Court, which overturned the Civil Court ruling.

While the country's top court has ordered to reinstate Hameed, reports indicate that he is in the running for the post of Police Commissioner.
