Renowned attorney Abdulla Haseen has said that some judges need to be removed to improve the Maldives justice system.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee programme on Thursday night, Haseen said that judges who had acted unlawfully before and now acting in the exact opposite way should not be considered as judicial reform.
Haseen questioned whether there has been any improvement, since the judiciary still retains the same judges and employees, and said that there can only be true judicial reform after those who have abused their authority are held accountable and punished.
Noting that Haseen still has a case that has been dragging at the Supreme Court for six years, he said that justice can only be served when court cases are concluded quickly and without bias.
He also said that the judges who has confessed to giving biased sentences due to outside influence should not be allowed to remain in their positions and that those who have abused their positions to commit injustices should be punished.
