Dhangethi MP Ilham Ahmed and Faresmaathodaa MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef have signed onto Jumhooree Party (JP).

The two lawmakers officially joined the party at a ceremony held on Wednesday night.

Ilham, who was elected to parliament with JP’s ticket in 2014, has also been appointed as party leader Qasim Ibrahim’s political advisor.

Speaking to the press, Ilham said he aims to get Qasim elected as the country's president.

MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef was one of the closest associates of former President Abdulla Yameen, who lost the presidential election to Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the candidate of the coalition that includes JP.
