President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established a commission to investigate the unsolved murders and disappearances and another one to investigate state corruption and embezzlement.
The President’s Office stated that the commissions were established on Saturday, the day Solih was sworn-in.
The commission to investigate the unsolved cases of murder and disappearances consists of Abdulla Munaz, Adam Ibrahim, Fareeshaa Abdulla, and Misbah Abbas with former attorney general Husnu Al Suood as the head.
The Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery will investigate the cases of state embezzlement and corruption.
It consists of Aal Abdulla, Nadeem Ibrahim, Aisthath Hana Waheed, and Fathimath Sareera Ali Shareef with Ahmed Assad as the head.
The commissions have all the powers of an investigative authority over the cases they investigate.
