Hassan Latheef, chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party, has announced his intention to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Latheef, a prominent lawyer who represented the party's leader Mohamed Nasheed in terror allegations against him, announced this in a tweet on Friday.
Latheef said that he intends to run for the North-Henveiru constituency, a newly formed parliamentary jurisdiction. This seat is one of two new seats created for capital city Malé.
I have decided to run for Henveiru Hulhangu (T14) seat at parliamentary election primary of @MDPSecretariat. #JazeeraRaajje #Maldives

"We have worked very hard to realize the ideals of this party. We have a manifesto that we will follow, and it can be fully implemented only by attaining a legitimate position in parliament for us and our partners", Latheef said.
Latheef was elected chairperson of the party in 2017. He was the only candidate contesting for the position and he had overseen the party's operations through the presidential elections.
