A 13-year-old girl has been raped at the dimly-lit ‘neighbourhood one’ area in Hulhumalé, the capital city’s fast-growing urban extension.
The assault has been reported, although a comment from the Maldives Police Service could not be acquired at the time of publishing.
Local media outlets report that the girl was raped last Friday, on 2nd November, by two men at a public park in the neighbourhood.
The park is located behind the Housing Development Corporation headquarters, although parts of it has been closed off for construction.
Reports of the crime have sparked outrage, with individuals expressing discontent at perceived secrecy maintained by authorities in cases of sexual assault and child abuse.
