Malaysia beat Maldives 3-0 in the international friendly held at the Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday evening.
The team came out strong from the beginning, and took the lead at the 16th minute with a goal from captain Z. A. Razdak.
While the first half concluded 1-nil, Maldives had multiple opportunities to equalize the game but failed.
The lead was extended in the second half, at the 81st minute, with a goal by Mohamed Safawi.
A lot of substitutions were made by Maldives in the last 10 minutes of the match.
Malaysia’s third goal was during additional time, by Mohamed Sumareh.
While this was Maldives national football team’s first match since winning the SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018, this was Malaysia’s final test before the final squad for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 is announced.
Maldives is currently ranked at 151st in the FIFA rankings, while Malaysia is at the 169th spot.
