President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged President Abdulla Yameen not to create national unrest after his election defeat.

He said this while speaking to the press on Tuesday after meeting with the recently release opposition leader and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

President Yameen and his supporters gathered to protest in a prohibited area on Monday night, calling on authorities to nullify the presidential elections result.

Speaking to the press the following day, Solih said that the citizens have made their choice very clear on election day and expressed disappointment that President Yameen has reversed his decision to accept the result.

Solih said neither they nor the citizens want civil unrest and that the security forces and elected leaders should defend the election result and the rights of citizens, adding that he sees no reason why the result should be changed.
