Jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s lawyer, Moosa Siraj has been released from police custody.
Siraj was released at Thursday’s remand hearing, where the police informed the Criminal Court that there was no need to remand him any further.
Following this, the lawyer told the court that he does not wish to be detained as well.
Siraj was arrested on September 20, for publicizing statements from Adeeb, his most high-profile client, with various allegations against incumbent President Abdulla Yameen including sorcery.
The police had conducted a search at his apartment on September 21, with the Criminal Court issuing him a six-day remand the same day.
While Siraj was arrested over these statements, his arrest order accuses him of spreading ‘fake news’ regarding state institutions and using ‘vulgar’ language in said statements.
