The President’s Office spokesperson has said that no ‘important documents’ have been destroyed, amid reports that the government is attempting to hide evidence of wrong doing.
In a tweet posted Tuesday night, spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that no such documents have been destroyed and said that the allegations were mere attempts to ‘divide the people’.
“No important documents at any state offices have been destroyed or will be destroyed. Shredders are always used at offices to destroy unwanted and waste material. I ask that such allegations, that produce discord, and divide the people, not be made”, the tweet says.
The removal of numerous cargoes, packed in boxes and loaded on trucks, from Mulee’aage has been a point of concern for the public, aggravated by the fact that that a number of items were burnt at a ruling party campaign site shortly after.
President Abdulla Yameen and his government has been accused of stealing billions of dollars from deals during his past tenure.
