British Ambassador James Dauris has said that it would be a ‘sad day for democracy’ if Sunday’s presidential ballots were to be delayed.
Ambassador Dauris’ sentiments were posted on Twitter after the police entered and searched Shinetree, a building in capital city Malé that holds the opposition’s current headquarters.
In view of events in #Maldives today it's easy to understand why so many people are concerned about what might happen on Election Day.

It would be a sad day for Maldivians and #democracy if tomorrow's vote were to be delayed. I share the hope it will go ahead, be free and fair.
Police entered the officers on the grounds that it is being used to distribute funds for ‘bribery’, although officers had found nothing relevant to their investigation.
With only hours left since ballots are to begin, there have been concerns of possible vote rigging raised by opponents of the government and members of civil society.
