MP Ahmed Mahloof has publicized photographs of Ibrahim Rasheed, an inmate in detention on assault charges, who he claims is suffering from a severe dermatological condition without access to treatment.
In a tweet he sent out early Friday, Mahloof said that Rasheed was admitted at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital after years of suffering from said condition.

The tweet translates to, ‘This is May Day protest detainee Ibrahim Rasheed. Rasheed has been kept in detention despite suffering from this skin condition for years. He was only admitted at the IGMH hospital a few days ago. This is torture, keeping him detained in prison without adequate medical care in a blatant attempt on his life’.
Rasheed was accused of assaulting a police officer at the May Day protest in 2015. He was found guilty and sentenced to a seven-year jail term.
RaajjeMV understands that Rasheed is now admitted at the hospital and is being given in-patient treatment.
Neither the Maldives Correctional Service nor the hospital have revealed details about his condition.
Mahloof himself has expressed concern about lack of access to medical care for prisoners. Three inmates have passed away while receiving treatment this year.
In 2016, seven inmates who suffered from conditions left untreated had passed away as well.
