The Elections Commission of the Maldives has rejected non-partisan presidential hopeful Hussain Naseer’s candidacy.
The commission said in a post on Twitter that Naseer’s form was rejected due to discrepancies in information provided in it.
Naseer submitted his bid for presidency on Wednesday along with 1,800 endorsement signatures. Naseer’s running mate is Sheikh Nasrulla Musthafa.
The sheikh is a former headmaster at the local Arabiyya School and has been charged with multiple criminal allegations, including possession of pornography and fraud.
