Jumhooree Party (JP) has officially handed over the ticket of opposition coalition’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s running mate for the September election to Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo constituency Faisal Naseem.

Jumhooree Party’s Deputy Leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan had handed over the ticket to MP Naseem at a special ceremony held at Jumhooree Party’s national campaign site Kunooz in Maafannu ward of capital city Male’ on Tuesday night.

Speaking at the ceremony, Naseem said that he is steadfast in the opposition’s work to bring about the change citizens want for their nation, calling on all to put in their best efforts to help the opposition coalition win the upcoming President Election to ensure the rights of all citizens will be restored.

“We need to accept that opportunities are not things that are easy to get. Opportunities are rare. However, intelligent people will always work to make these rare opportunities ones that are beneficial. They will work to bring the positive changes that the citizens desire” said Naseem.

The MP further said that the most important thing right now is re-registration.

Naseem won the secret vote held by the party's council on the 13th of July, with the difference of one vote with his closest contestant Member of Parliament for Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain. Naseem had won with 15 votes with Hussain coming in closest with 14 votes.

Following this, former President of Jumhooree Party’s youth league, Moosa Anwar had filed an appeal at the Civil Court to hold a second round of voting to pick the opposition coalition’s running mate. He had withdrawn his appeal on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ceremony, party leader Qasim Ibrahim had severely criticised Anwar, asking if he had lost his mind and going on to say that he was always a critic of every action of the party.
