President cancels trip to Thiladhunmathi atoll 'due to bad weather'

President Abdulla Yameen has cancelled a scheduled trip to northernmost Thiladhunmathi atoll.

Reports indicate that the trip was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

When reached for confirmation, President’s Office spokesperson Ibrahim Muaz Ali said that details of the President’s trips will be disclosed accordingly.

President Yameen had, during his visit to Mulak atoll last week, revealed plans to visit Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu atoll this week.

While the President has cancelled his trip to the northernmost atolls, European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council is to make a decision on imposing sanctions on Maldivian government officials on Monday.
