The Elections Commission (EC) has on Sunday accepted the changes to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhooree Party (JP)’s regulations.
EC member and spokesperson, Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that both parties had submitted the necessary documents after their respective congress meetings.
Noting that the Commission has decided to endorse the amendments, Akram further said that the changes will be ‘validated’.
While the congress meetings were held separately, an observer from the Commission was present at both.
MDP nominated its parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as its ‘alternative’ presidential candidate at the congress meeting where over 800 members were in attendance.
JP introduced the party president post and elected MDP’s former chair Ali Waheed to the post and appointed deputy leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan as its acting leader. Also at the meeting, the party introduced its new flag and logo.
