Will not partake in sittings as long as Parliament Speaker Maseeh is in office: MP Rozaina
Rozaina appealed to reinstate the 12 opposition MP’s who have been banned from entering parliament premises.
Opposition MPs will enter parliament once Maseeh steps down from his position as speaker

Member of Parliament for Addu-Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam has said that although opposition members wish to partake in the 07th sitting of parliament’s second session to be held on Tuesday, they will only enter parliament sittings when Speaker Abdulla Maseeh resigns from his post.

Upon receiving an invitation on Monday night to partake in the parliament sitting scheduled for Tuesday, the MP had taken her response to twitter, having appealed on the table office to reinstate the 12 opposition MP’s who have been banned from entering parliament premises.

Rozaina had written that opposition MPs will enter parliament once Maseeh steps down from his position as speaker according to the laws and regulations of the parliament.

Rozaina said that although she had been invited to Tuesday’s sitting, she does not wish to partake as long as Maseeh remains as speaker, given that he had refused to take a vote to pass three significant bills in Monday’s sitting saying that not enough members were present.

Albeit pro-government members having claimed that opposition MP’s partake in committee meetings to acquire allowances, opposition members refuted these claims by saying that their intentions for partaking in committee meetings are not linked with allowances, rather for the greater good of the citizens of their constituencies.
