Busy morning for the President with non-resident ambassadors of Sweden, Austria, Nigeria and Korea presenting letters of credence
All four ambassadors presented their letters of credence on Thursday morning
They are; Austria's Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer, Sweden's Klas Molin, Nigeria's Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi and Korea's Lee Heon

Non-resident ambassadors of Sweden, Austria, Nigeria and Korea presented their letters of credence to President Abdulla Yameen on Thursday.

At the meetings held the President's Office on Thursday morning, President Abdulla Yameen was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer and the Foreign Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Sareer.

Congratulating Austria's non-resident Ambassador Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer on the commencement of her term, President Yameen expressed hope "to further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries" during her tenure.

According to the President's Office, both parties also discussed "strengthening of joint efforts in regard to environment protection, enhancing tourism cooperation and working closely to address international issues of common concern", with the ambassador proposing to work "closely to strengthen trade cooperation and collaborating in the hospitality sector".

Welcoming Ambassador Klas Molin, President Yameen expressed hope in enhancing "the existing ties between the Maldives and Sweden" during his term.

Noting that President Yameen and Ambassador Molin also held discussion to further "areas of mutually beneficial collaboration", the President's Office said that the ambassador had shown "interest to bring Swedish investments to the Maldives, especially in the tourism sector".

He further expressed "gratitude" for accepting him as the new Non-Resident Ambassador, and congratulated President Yameen " on the leadership the Maldives has been showing as an advocate for Small Island States".

At the ceremony held at the President's Office on Thursday morning, President Yameen welcomed and congratulated Nigeria's non-resident ambassador to Maldives, Major General (Rtd.) Ashimiyu Adebayo Olaniyi and highlighted the exisiting "strong partnership and good bilateral ties" between Maldives and Nigeria.

"The President also noted that the Maldives and Nigeria share common views on an array of issues of mutual interest, specifically on the international arena, with maintaining the peace of the region and protecting the good name of Islam as a religion, stating that Islam is a religion of peace and co-existence," said the President's Office.

In addition, the President and Ambassador "discussed ways of further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, and on exploring further areas of cooperation including the health sector and human resource development", with Ambassador Olaniyi expressing "hope and confidence to continue working closely with the Maldives, and further consolidating the existing relations between the two countries".

Welcoming Ambassador Lee Heon of Korea, President Yameen extended greetings from the government and people of Maldives to the Korean football team, for their win against World Cup title holders Germany on Wednesday.

Both parties also discussed ways to " further strengthen existing bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations, in the areas of information technology, trade, travel and tourism".

Ambassador Heon also expressed "hope and confidence" to continue working closely with the Maldives, and further consolidating the existing relations between the two countries.
