A Sri Lankan national who was severely burnt in a fire that broke aboard an oil boat has been transferred to capital Malé City for further treatment.

The boat fire occurred in Ungoofaaru island of Raa atoll.

Managing Director of Ungoofaaru Hospital Sheeza Ibrahim told RaajjeMV that two victims of the fire had been brought to the hospital for treatment on Sunday night.

Sheeza said that the Sri Lankan had sustained serious burns on 60% of his body and confirmed that he has been sent to Malé for further treatment.

Noting that the second victim is a Maldivian, Sheeza said that he had not sustained any serious injuries and that he has since been discharged from the hospital.

The fire broke out aboard the oil boat at around 8:30pm on Sunday, and the Maldives Police Service is currently investigating the matter.
