Gan MP Fayyaz Ismail has said that he does not expect a fair election with current Elections Commission (EC) members, but they will not be able to fake the results.
He said this at former President Mohamed Nasheed’s Haa Alifu atoll elections campaign launching ceremony in Dhidhdhoo on Saturday night.
MP Fayyaz said that there will be some trying to fake the results in the presidential election but that there will be no chance to do so.
He expressed confidence of Nasheed’s name being in the ballot even though he is still to serve his prison sentence, legally barring him from the elections. He also said that there was the possibility that incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s name will not be in the ballot.
He said that President Yameen might be able to extend his rule if he doesn’t allow an election, but only for a few days.
He also urged people to vote in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s primary election on May 30.
