President Abdulla Yameen will be removed from office even if he attempts to influence it and ‘even if ballots are not held’, Gan constituency MP Fayyaz Ismail has said.

MP Fayyaz said this at a Joint Opposition rally held in Rasdhoo island of Alif Alif atoll, adding that the current chief of the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef, was appointed with the full intention to alter the results of the elections.

Fayyaz said that tyranny has long persisted in Maldivian governance and its roots go beyond any official, including President Yameen. Fayyaz said that those that currently drive the ‘cycle of tyranny’ will soon be revealed.

The lawmaker said that this will result in them being held accountable and those victimized by abuses in the past will be given justice for their losses.
