Families of those arrested over alleged bribery and attempting to overthrow the government have been notified that family visits have been restricted to once a month.
In a tweet, Yumna Maumoon said that due to the change her family will not be able to visit jailed husband Mohamed Nadheem until May and expressed her sadness for having to tell their daughter.
Been informed by @Corrections_Mv today that family will only be able to visit @MNadhym once a month from now. So I will not be able to see him till May. We were so looking forward to seeing him. What do I tell my daughter? 1/2 @hrcmv @UNHumanRights @Amnesty pic.twitter.com/cimcUrrwMK

Yumna’s father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, and brother MP Faris Maumoon are also in prison.
While family members of other detainees remanded for their rest of their trial have also confirmed this, there has been no word from the correctional service.
The law states that at least one family visit should be given to prisoners, however authorities earlier allowed one visit per week. The reason for the drastic change has not been disclosed.
Lawyers have also said they have been having difficulties scheduling meeting with their clients in prison. Jailed Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed’s lawyer Hisaan Hussain has said that she has been unable to meet with her client for over a week.
