Police violently drag MP Faris out of cell for interview, injures shoulder
Faris’ lawyer said the lawmaker has now spoken to officers with him present
Maumoon also reported his client to be in ill-health as a result of officers manhandling him

Officers of the police had handcuffed and violently dragged MP Faris Maumoon out of his cell on Friday, for an interview in their ongoing investigation.

Officers had attempted to question him but the parliamentarian refused to speak to them without the presence of a legal representative, his lawyer Faris Maumoon.

Faris’ lawyer said the lawmaker spoke to officers with him present but refused to sign the statement as officers neglected include his claims of inhumane treatment while in custody.

Maumoon also reported his client to be in ill-health as a result of officers manhandling him.

MP Faris is facing charges of bribery and identity fraud, although he is being held under Maldives' ongoing state of emergency.
