Police officers who arrested ex-commissioner Ahmed Areef on Tuesday, had attempted to enter jailed parliamentarian Ahmed Faris’ apartment as well.

While officers had attempted to enter and search Faris’ home, his family had refused to allow them entry.

Faris was apprehended from his home, an apartment at Snow Rose in Maafannu of capital city Malé, in February for a fourth time after having been released days earlier. He is facing multiple criminal allegations.

Areef lives in another apartment in Snow Rose, which officers searched before arresting him. The former commissioner was earlier named to have told Faris about his impending incarceration.

MP Faris told the press that Areef, then the commissioner of police, informed him that President Abdulla Yameen had ordered his arrest. Areef had refuted this.
