Maduvvari MP Mohamed Ameeth was summoned to police on Thursday night.
After the summons, MP Ameeth said he was questioned on allegations that protesters gathered at Jumhoree Party (JP)’s campaign office to create disorder in capital city Male’ on February 26.
Ameeth denied the allegations and said that he was arrested right as he arrived at the campaign office, and that he had dropped and broke his phone when officers twisted his arm during the arrest.
Police informed him that he was arrested as per the criminal procedure act, but Ameeth noted that the act has been suspended after the declaration of the State of Emergency.
He added that the opposition will not stop their protest against government oppression.
