Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef has been made redundant and replaced by the deputy commissioner.

The law enforcement institute's hierarchy change was revealed by Attorney General Mohamed Anil in a press conference on Thursday.

Anil said that the temporary chief of the police is to be deputy commissioner Ahmed Saudhi.

Commissioner Areef said that the decision was made following the Maldives Police Service's decision to enforce Thursday's controversial Supreme Court ruling.
