MP Faris Maumoon on Saturday said President Abdulla Yameen had asked the police commissioner to have the parliamentarian arrested.

Police have been active at Faris' apartment building, Snow Rose.

He told journalists gathered there that Commissioner Ahmed Areef himself had revealed this.

Faris, who was released from police custody on Thursday, said that he may be facing a new set of charges.

'I have been informed of attempts to incarcerate me again, I believe these are a new set of charges, something they cooked up just to hinder our efforts’ Faris said.

RaajjeMV understands that the spouses of both Faris and Areef are siblings, and are all residents at Snow Rose.

Reports surfaced earlier on Saturday that Areef is to resign due to result of authorities attempting to arrest Faris.

However, the Maldives Police Service has denied this.
