Asim had reportedly extended the Maldivian government’s invitation to Prime Minister Modi, to visit the Maldives

Foreign Minister Mohamed Asim has returned to the Maldives, after concluding a state visit to India where he represented the president.

Minister Asim’s visit to India lasted from January 10th to 12th, where he met with high-ranking officials of the Indian government.

Asim had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, and Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

The ministry said that Minister Asim had spoken to said officials to reinforce Maldives’ commitment to relations with India, and the ‘India First’ diplomatic policies.

Asim had reportedly extended the Maldivian government’s invitation to Prime Minister Modi, to visit the Maldives. Modi had responded to say that he would follow through when it is convenient.

The Indian government had reportedly also conveyed the subcontinent’s affinity to supporting its neighbours and longstanding allies.
