An audio recording has surfaced in which Attorney General Ahmed Usham suggests that liquor licenses could be granted to specific hotels developed under the Ras Male' project, despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier assertions that alcohol would not be permitted in the new city.
In the leaked audio recording, Attorney General Usham stated that Ras Male' is being developed as a distinct, standalone island.
In this regard, discussions were held concerning the sale of alcohol at commercial establishments and hotels located within a designated area.
Furthermore, he noted that as these locations are situated on separate islands—similar to Maldivian resorts—they will remain inaccessible to the general public, and emphasized that no activities violating Maldivian laws will be permitted there.
According to reports, these remarks were made by Usham during a meeting with religious scholars regarding the concerns surrounding the alleged permanent transfer of the Ras Male' project to Eagle Hills.
Although the authenticity of the audio has not yet been officially verified, several individuals on social media have claimed that the voice belongs to Ushama.
The audio surfaced following repeated assurances from President Muizzu that his administration would not permit the sale of alcohol or pork within any part of the Ras Male' project, maintaining that such activities do not align with government policy.
