Former Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency and legal expert Ali Hussain has asserted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is the individual who has posed the greatest threat and caused the most significant damage to Maldivian nationalism in recent history.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Ali Hussain stated that the amendments brought to Articles 3 and 262 of the Constitution by the 20th People’s Majlis clearly mandate that any changes to the territory of the Maldives must be decided through a public referendum. He further noted that while land ownership in the Maldives has historically been reserved for Maldivian Muslim citizens, allowing foreign entities to own land would constitute the most significant change possible to the nation's territorial integrity.
Ali Hussain stated that plans are underway to allow foreign entities to own land in Ras Male', warning that permitting this land to fall into the hands of non-Muslims and agents working directly for Zionists would be a severe blow to national identity. He noted that if such individuals were to settle in the Maldives as residents or citizens, it would pave the way for the establishment of religions other than Islam in the country.
Highlighting that President Muizzu is the individual who has posed the greatest threat and damage to Maldivian nationalism in recent history, Ali Hussain stated that allowing foreign entities to own Maldivian land without a public referendum is a violation of the Constitution.
For nine hundred years, no sound has resonated across this land other than the Islamic call to prayer. Therefore, any shift in the status or sovereignty of this territory that would allow for the propagation of foreign faiths or non-Islamic rituals would represent a profound and fundamental change to the very identity of the Maldives.Ali Hussain
Ali Hussain further stated that the Ras Male' project case has been formally submitted to the Supreme Court for legal action, including a request for an injunction. He added that while the public remains in the dark regarding the details of the project, all necessary efforts to halt the initiative will continue.
