Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, the Secretary General of the People’s National Front (PNF), has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu would fail to secure even 10 percent of the vote if an election were held in the Maldives today.
During a press conference held on Wednesday regarding allegations that a significant portion of Ras Male' has been permanently leased to Eagle Hills, Maleeh severely criticized the People’s Majlis. He stated that members of parliament should be the first to stand up and seek solutions to the public's concerns surrounding the Ras Male' project.
However, Maleeh stated that President Muizzu’s authoritarian rule has effectively paralyzed the Parliament, adding that the public no longer accepts the current administration's conduct. He further noted that the government is well aware that the majority of citizens do not support the ongoing Ras Male' project.
Furthermore, Maleeh stated that the true power of the government lies with the people, asserting that if a vote were held today, President Muizzu would fail to secure even 10 percent of the ballot.
Reflecting on the results of the U.S. midterm elections, Maleeh stated that those who work against the public will and exclude journalists by denying them invitations to President's Office press briefings will face their answer from the people at the polls.
God willing, what we are about to witness is an "anti-Muizzu" wave. A massive swell is already surging across the Maldives. Therefore, it is up to President Muizzu to decide whether he wishes to remain in power or not. If agreements are signed against the pulse of the people, the public must voice their dissent and take decisive action to the greatest extent possible to prevent the significant harm that may follow.Mohamed Maleeh Jamal
Furthermore, speaking on behalf of former President Abdulla Yameen’s national movement, Maleeh called upon members of the MDP, PNF, Adhaalath Party, Jumhooree Party, and MDA, as well as supporters of the ruling PNC in major hubs such as Addu, Fuvahmulah, and Kulhudhuffushi cities, to join the efforts to halt the Ras Male' project.
Maleeh has urged political party members and the general public to organize small-scale protests across the islands and make arrangements to gather in Male' on Friday, November 13.
