Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has announced that the mass protest against the Ras Male' project—organized in response to allegations that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is permanently granting a significant portion of the reclaimed land to Eagle Hills—has been postponed to Friday, December 13.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sheikh Imran stated that the protest—previously scheduled for Friday, December 6—was postponed to allow for further preparation and to ensure maximum public participation. The demonstration aims to demand that the project not proceed without a public referendum.
He stated that a key reason for this change was to provide additional time for those wishing to travel to Male' from the atolls to participate in the gathering.
Sheikh Imran further stated that the main opposition party, MDP, has joined the efforts against the Ras Male' project, with its national council passing a strong resolution to provide significant support to the cause. He added that the MDP taking the lead in this matter serves as a powerful assurance that President Muizzu will be unable to proceed further with the project.
Our efforts have expanded significantly, and today we have reached a major turning point in this initiative. With the overwhelming support of the MDP National Council—and it would not be an exaggeration to say it was nearly unanimous—a decisive and powerful resolution has been passed. This resolution formally mandates opposition to the current Ras Male' agreement and the specific plans President Muizzu intends to pursue.Imran Abdulla
Sheikh Imran stated that the postponement of the gathering provides a valuable opportunity to further strengthen the movement and ensure more thorough preparations. He called upon the public to take to the streets of Male' on Friday, the 13th of this month, and fill the city's roads in a show of solidarity.
