Member of Parliament for Galolhu South, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has stated that the extent to which a foreign billionaire is currently exerting influence over the Maldivian state is unprecedented in recent history, describing the situation as deeply alarming.
Appearing on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, MP Meekail heavily criticized the reported permanent handover of the Ras Male' project to Eagle Hills.
He expressed concern over the current rhetoric from individuals who previously led the "India Out" campaign. He further noted that the Constitution is being amended and parliamentary regulations are being altered within 24-hour periods under the influence of foreign entities.
Laws are being amended to an extent never seen before, surpassing the actions of any previous administration—whether under President Maumoon, President Nasheed, President Yameen, or President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih—despite those leaders also holding supermajorities. We must pause and reflect when we reach a point where parliamentary laws are being altered simply at the whim of those newly in power.Meekail Ahmed Naseem
Furthermore, MP Meekail noted that changes have been made to the procedures for submitting resolutions in Parliament, asserting that this was a deliberate move to silence the minority of members. He added that these actions highlight the significant lack of transparency surrounding the Ras Male' projects and underscore the potential risks and negative impacts these developments could pose to the public.
Emphasizing that this is not an issue tied to any specific party or ideology, MP Meekail called upon all well-wishers of the nation to set aside political differences and speak out on this matter for the sake of the country's future and the rights of its children.
