Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that the Male' City Council has pledged its full cooperation to the national movement titled "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah," which was launched to oppose the sale of Ras Male'. He described this assurance from the council as a significant boost to the cause.
Speaking to the press following a meeting with the Mayor of Male' City to discuss concerns regarding the sale of Ras Male', Imran stated that the assurance of cooperation from Mayor Adam Azim and the City Council—within the bounds of the law and established regulations—is evidence that the Maldivian Citizens' National Movement is gaining further momentum.
"We requested the Mayor and the Council to provide their full support to our protest regarding the issues facing the Maldivian people. We asked for every possible assistance they could offer in their official capacity on behalf of the citizens. The Mayor and the Council have assured us that they will extend all possible cooperation within the framework of the law and existing regulations. We note this with great satisfaction and express our sincere gratitude to them."Imran Abdulla
Imran repeatedly emphasized that the cooperation of the Male’ City Council—an entity elected with the support and mandate of the region's largest constituency—serves as clear evidence of the project's expansion and progress. He further noted that this partnership provides significant encouragement to their efforts.
Imran stated that Maldivians would not consent to the sale of 500 hectares of the country's land. He urged the public to join the cause, noting that the council has already decided to take part in these efforts.
Imran has provided assurances that this movement will persist until the government halts the Ras Male' project. He further called upon President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to heed the voice of the people.
Imran stated that it became necessary to oppose the Ras Male' project because President Muizzu acted in violation of established principles. He asserted that, with the support of the Maldivian people and by the will of God, they would succeed in halting the project. Furthermore, Imran highlighted that a significant majority of the public is also opposed to the initiative.
