Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is attempting to undermine the Constitution, calling on the public to stand up and speak out against these actions.
Speaking from the audience at the "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah" special forum held Saturday night, Sheikh Imran stated that the reports of a significant portion of Ras Male' being permanently handed over to the company Eagle Hills is a matter of grave concern that cannot be taken lightly.
The current leader is attempting to directly undermine the authority of the Constitution. Therefore, we are not dealing with an ordinary matter.Imran Abdulla
Sheikh Imran highlighted that foreign companies often attempt to exert influence over both governments and opposition parties while executing projects in various countries, warning that the Maldives must remain vigilant against the influence of entities such as Henley & Partners.
Furthermore, Sheikh Imran stated that in many countries, such issues only come to light after the damage is done and significant unrest or tragic incidents have occurred. He noted that it is a great stroke of luck that these concerns have surfaced and sparked public debate before the agreements were officially signed.
Sheikh Imran urged the public to take a stand and voice their concerns before the agreement is signed, ensuring that no outside parties exert undue influence over the government or the opposition. He stated that if the people move forward with this cause, his party would not merely stand behind them, but would remain on the front lines alongside the citizens. Furthermore, Sheikh Imran called upon the public to unite and raise their voices through social media and other platforms. He encouraged everyone to intensify their efforts to protect the Constitution, the nation's sovereignty, and its religion.
