Man sentenced to life imprisonment for storing and trafficking drugs in agricultural area!

The Gadhdhoo Magistrate Court has sentenced Ali Shazeen, of Nooreege, Gdh. Gadhdhoo, to 25 years in prison and imposed a fine of MVR 100,000 after finding him guilty of trafficking diamorphine.
He was sentenced on October 4, 2026, under Section 105 of the Drugs Act.
The case was initially reported to the Maldives Police Service on August 10, 2021. Following the conclusion of the investigation, the matter was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on September 1, 2021, with a recommendation to file formal charges.
According to the Maldives Police Service, a court-authorized search was conducted on a farming plot managed by Ali Shazeen on the island of Gaafu Dhaalu Gan following allegations of drug storage and trafficking. During the operation, authorities discovered alcohol and substances suspected to be narcotics.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the case was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which has filed two charges against the suspect. These include a charge of drug trafficking and a charge of engaging in a regulated activity without the required permit.
The court has found him guilty on both charges. Consequently, he has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
